MW James McCrorry Willson, Jr.

JimmyWillsonMW James McCrorry Willson, Jr., Past Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Texas F&AM, passed to the Celestial Lodge on April 9th, 2016. He was 94 years old.

Jimmy was born November 30,1921 in Hale Center, Texas to J.M..Willson Sr. and Mavis Terry Willson. He completed secondary education at FloydadaHigh School and college education in accounting at S.M.U. He served in the army in WW II and married Anne O’berry Newman in 1946. They were in the lumber and hardware business in Floydada until 1989. He served many public service jobs during his life including Methodist Lay Leader, city mayor as well as being a 50 year plus member of Boy Scouts, Rotary International and Lions Club among many other organizations. His first love was work on behalf of Freemasonry and its charities. Jimmy served as Grandmaster of Texas Masons as well as an officer in four national masonic organizations. Dad truly believed that “….no man stands so tall as when he stoops to help a child”.

Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents and wife.

He is survived by five children:Mac Willson, Linda Noy and husband Nick, Jane Traugott and husband Joe, John and Terry.

Raised a JimmyWillson2Master Mason in Floydada Lodge No. 712, A.F. &A.M., February 22, 1947. Served as Worshipful Master in 1956 – 1957. Served as District Deputy Grand Master of the 96th Masonic District 1958. Served as Grand Marshal, Grand Orator, State Regional Conference Coordinator three years, Workshop Chairman three years and Chairman of the Finance Committee. He was elected as Grand Junior Warden of the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Texas on December 2, 1978 and served as the Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Texas 1981 – 1982.

Exalted a Royal Arch Mason in Floydada Chapter No. 227, R.A.M. on May 21, 1947. Served as High Priest in 1961 – 1962. Served as District Deputy Grand High Priest of the 39th Capitular District in 1963; is a Grand Representative of the Grand Chapter of New Mexico near the Grand Chapter of Texas. He was elected Grand Scribe in 1974, passed through the Chairs and was elected and installed as Most Excellent Grand High Priest on December 6, 1977, and served during the year 1978.

Greeted in Floydada Council No. 163, R. & S. M., June 9, 1947. Served as Thrice Illustrious Master in 1960 – 1961. Served as District Deputy Grand Master of the 39th Cryptic District in 1965; is the Grand Representative of the Grand Council of New Mexico near the Grand Council of Texas; was elected as the Illustrious Grand Principal
Conductor of the Work in December 1984, and Grand Master of the Grand Council of Royal and Select Masters of Texas in 1986.

Knighted in Plainview Commandery No. 53, K.T., September 22, 1947. Served as Commander in 1962. Member of Lubbock Commandery No. 60, K.T. Lubbock, Texas. Served the Grand Commandery of Knights Templar of Texas as Grand Commander in 1973 – 1974; and served as the Grand Prelate in 1986 – 1987. He also served as the Department Commander of the South Central Department of the Grand Encampment Knights Templar of the United States.

Coroneted Inspector General Honorary 33°,,a. December 16, 1965, Dallas Valley; Life Member and Charter Member of Lubbock Valley. Served as Venerable Master Lubbock Lodge of Perfection, Wise Master Lubbock Chapter Rose Croix, and Master of Kadosh Lubbock Scottish Rite Bodies. Director of Investors in Youth of Endowment Program of the West Texas Learning Center.

He is a member of the Order of High Priesthood; Order of the Silver Trowel; Super Excellent Master; Life Member and Past Prior of the Knights York Cross of Honour; Past Sovereign, Red Cross of Constantine, and Intendant General for the Western Division of Texas; Texas York Rite College No. 14 and Dual Member of West Texas York Rite College No. 36, and serving as Deputy Governor, York Rite College of North America for Texas; Past Preceptor, Holy Royal Arch Knight Templar Priests; Life Member of the Royal Order of Scotland; and Life Member of Khiva Temple, A.A.O.N.M.S., and Honorary Member of El Mina Temple and Maskat Temple.

During his life, he served as an officer in at least four national Masonic bodies, including as Grand Treasurer for the Grand Encampment of Knights Templar, and as Past Supreme Magus of the Societas Rosicruciana in Civitatibus Foederatis between 1995 and 1998.

As listed above, Companion Willson is one of the few outstanding Masons who have served as the Presiding Officer of the four York Rite Bodies. He is unofficially designated as a Four Star General.
